為什麼是”Let“？一個說法是，Let源自於法文的Filet(網子)，有觸網的意思；另一種解釋是，Let在英文裡有hindrance(妨礙)的意思，指的是受到干擾。網球賽場上的Let call後來延伸為對所有需要重打的判決，最常出現的狀況是發球觸網進的時候(Let serve)。還有，比方有動物(或怪人)誤闖比賽、球從球童手中掉出來進而干擾比賽進行的時候，或主審改判線審判決的時候。。。等等
